Farmer’s field visit and germplasm collection
ITANAGAR, Sep 7: A team comprising of A. Kirankumar Singh, SMS (Agronomy) and Rita Nongthombam, SMS (Plant Breeding) and Goputom Bhagawati, Technical Officer (Agromet) visited Mimo Basar’s field nearby Galu Village and Imi Ango, of Angu Village on 6th Sept and monitored different activities carried out by the farmers as well as germplasms were also collected for study.
Singh monitored the stage of Maize crop under OFT of the KVK, Basar and jhum paddy which are ready for harvest. Later, he demonstrated the method of harvesting and threshing so that crops are not spoiled during production period. The team collected local germplasms of different crops and advised them the steps to protect the important local germplasms of different crops.

ITANAGAR, Sep 7: Arunachal Pradesh Abo Tani Clans Youth Organization (APATCYO) has decided to organize a peaceful rally from Bank Tinali (Legi Complex) to Chief Secretary’s office on September 14 in protest against govt’s failure to fulfill its charter of demands, including immediate cancellation of inner line permit of the refugees.
The rally is being organized following expiry of 15 days ultimatum given to the Government to fulfill its charter of demands which also included issuance of ILP to refugees for four month only and punishment in case of their over staying, no permanent govt job, business opportunity to the refugees etc.
The association threatened to intensify movement if govt did not fulfill the demands after the peaceful rally.

ITANAGAR, Sep 7: A social service was conducted by Natural Resources and Wildlife Control Society (NRWCS) at Govt. Residential School Nakar under Mengio circle on August 27 last.
All the teaching staff and students actively took part in the social service and cleaned the school surroundings.
NRWCS also organized awareness camp on health and hygiene in the school premise.
Further, the executive body of the society has strictly restricted illegal hunting, fishing by blasting, extraction of other natural resources such as timber, cane etc within its jurisdiction. Legal actions against violators would be initiated under Wildlife Act, the society said in a release.

West Siang to hunt Sports Talent

ALSU condemns attack
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) strongly condemned the attack made on an advocate Taba Tagum on Sept 2. ITANAGAR, Sep 7: Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) criticized the state government for failing to provide adequate security to the employees during ANSU’s two days capital bandh.
Expressing their displeasure over various incidents which resulted in loss of public properties and also humiliation to the employees, CoSAAP said: “From the past experience it is revealed that the Govt failed miserably to provide proper and adequate security to the employees and guard Govt properties when such bandh calls are given by various organizations.
“Despite Govt.’s assurance to provided security to the office goers and public properties, Govt failed to stand by its assertion,” it said.
“Govt had earlier directed the employees to attend offices during such bandh calls failing which employees may have to part with their continuity in service including pay cut. Since no proper securities were provided, question of deduction of pay and allowances of the employees who could not attend office due to obvious reasons does not arise,” CoSAAP said.
It also appealed to the bandh sponsors to know the plight of the employees as they are not for or against any bandh calls but are bound by the directives of the authority, it added.
Student leader and Dam activist dies

ROING, Sep 7: Atombo Molo 30, former president of All Idu Mishmi Students Union (AIMSU) who spearheaded the three years anti dam movement in Dibang Valley died in a landslide in Aathu Epo in Dri Valley near China border, AIMSU Secretary Rajiv Mihu confirmed today.
The incident is also confirmed by IMCLS Finance Secretary Rajkumar Keche.
The former president along with three others went missing last month on 14th August after they went for trekking in high mountains near China border on 29th July, informs Keche.
The three others who accompanied him are identified as Hohai Mepo 50 of Matoli village, Koka Tayu 45 of Yuron village and Rohini Manoh 32 of Akobe village.
The whole of Anini town is in deep shock, Mihu said on phone. “The bodies are yet to be recovered. The rescue party is unable to reach the accident site because of the deep and difficult terrain.”
Keche said the search party after receiving confirmation of the missing found the remains of the body only yesterday, after a month of grueling search in high mountains.
AIMSU Secretary condoled the death of Molo and said, “We have lost a great youth leader under whose leadership AIMSU attained high respect for its integrity and dedication for the cause of the Idu society.”
Mihu remembers him as soft spoken, a man of high wisdom and a person with great leadership acumen.
Molo is survived by his young wife and two daughters of age 3 months and 3 years.
“We fervently plead and appeal Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, MP Rajya Sabha Mukut Mithi, MLA Laeta Umbrey and MLA Rajesh Tacho for assistance to his family in the form of government job,” said AIMSU Secretary.
ITANAGAR, Sep 7: All Nyishi Students Union has criticized the police force for allegedly coming down heavily on ANSU activists during bandh call. The union said that police personnel used tear gas to disperse activists and even resorted to gun firing. However, public of Gohpur, Chimpu, Papu Nallah, Polo Colony and other localities came out to the street to rescue the ANSU activists from “Government's extreme crack down”, the Union said in a release.
With such attitude from the Government, the office of the All Nyishi Students Union vows to intensify its movement rigorously “until justice is delivered to the Nyishi community”.
“A police personnel has been found to use the derogatory word “Dafla” on a Nyishi woman of Itanagar who was not even an ANSU activist”, the union alleged adding that even the police personnel has gone overboard to warn the woman of physical assault.

The ANSU further said that the Union is deeply pained at the Chief Minister’s statement calling ANSU “betrayer”. ANSU made it clear that Pradeep Thakur tendering apology from the comfort of his New Delhi residence was unacceptable.
“It was mutually accepted on August 18 meeting that the meeting with Pradeep Thakur in person was to be held at Guwahati for which the HM was to rush to New Delhi by Aug 20 and the outcome of the meeting with Pradeep Thakur was to convey to us by Aug 23. However, even after the expiry of one week of the time given by the Government there was no communication. The Government even though in principle having accepted our demands has failed to deliver”, ANSU said.
ANSU is shocked at the Govt’s blaming union at their own failure to deliver, the release added.
The Sentinel Arunachal off for indefinite period
ITANAGAR, Sept 7: Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Sentinel Arunachal, an English daily published from Itanagar, will be out of print for an indefinite period of time beginning Friday.
Informing of the development, the management of the daily today said that the hard decision had to be taken in view of certain issues pertaining to internal as well as external circumstances that may hinder the free and fair functioning of the publishing house. In order to sort out the issues, the management resolved to close down its offices for the time being.
The daily, meanwhile, has appealed its esteemed readers to bear with the management while assuring that once all issues, particularly related to mental and physical security of its staff, are sorted out, it would again hit the stands with renewed vigour.

The proposal for establishment of NIMAS at Rupa in West Kameng was announced in 2003 by the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. This was to have been taken under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence, Army Adventure Wing. A lot of correspondence has since been made regarding the shifting of the site from Rupa to Dirang where land measuring 52 acres has also been requisitioned from local inhabitants for which a MoU is pending for want of signature from Deputy Commissioner, Bomdila and Army Authorities. A Pilot Project was also proposed by the Army Adventure Wing for running the Institute at Dirang.
The infrastructure development is ongoing at the proposed site wherein the officials had visited last month.
Mega heath camp at Namsai, three HIV cases
ITANAGAR, Sep 7: Two days Mega Health Mela was conducted by District Health Society
Tezu at CHC Namsai from Sept 5 in which Doctors and para-
232 underwent laparoscopic sterilization of the total 915 patients. During extensive screening for HIV, STI cases & Hepatitis “B” by DAPCU of Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, three cases of HIV ( 02 males & 01 female) were detected by Standard Diagnostic HIV test Kits methods. Lohit has second largest HIV cases in the state after Papum Pare.
There were four cases of STI (Syphilis) and 2 cases of Hepatitis “B”. The Hepatitis”B” test kits were supplied by Bristol & Meyers Division (SQUIB), Dibrugarh. Earlier, Chowna Mein Minister PHED, who inaugurated the health mela called for efforts to stop further spread of malaria, TB and HIV Aids. He said that precaution must be taken by the citizens to stop spread of these problems.
He suggested that people visit IEC stalls on National Vector Borne Disease Program, National AIDS Control Program, Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program, National Rural Health Mission to prevent infectious diseases which were put up during the mega health camp. The NGOs like Prayas Swast Sewa Kendra from Wakro PHC & SHG of Namsai also installed stalls during the Mega Health Mela.

ITANAGAR, Sep 7: Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has demanded arrest of the miscreants who have barged into the house of Association president Bamang Taji and damaged the house hold properties including the office infrastructure and vehicles in the intervening night of Sept 2 last.
In seperate memorandums to the Chief Minister and Deputy Commisioner, the IMWA demanded arrest of the miscreants involved in the destruction activities within 48 hours and exemplary punishment to them. It threatened to launch shutter down agitation followed by a series of democratic movement if Govt fails to respond satisfactorily within the stipulated period of time.
While vehemently criticizing the destructive activities, the IMWA in its memorandum said that a group of man armed with sharp weapons like dao entered the residence of Taji on Sept 2 midnight after the toppling the locked entrance gate and began to ransack the home, damaged house hold properties like almirah, fans, chairs sofa set. The miscreant also damaged the parked vehicles in the garage and also damaged a car of a bank staff parked outside of the said residence. They further completely damaged the office of the IMWA including furniture and computer set. It said that IMWA office is presently running from the house of Bamang Taji. After half an hour rampage, the miscreants fled away before the police reached the spot. The miscreants might have attacked the persons who locked themselves in a room for safety if the police personnel arrived little late, the memorandum said.
The miscreant also badly damaged the furniture of hotel Mount Cafe, Ganga, Itanagar, the memorandum added.

Clarification
Dear Editor,
This is in response to some news items which appeared in your esteemed daily in recent past regarding AIT Guwahati.
We want to clarify here that the AIT is not recognized by AICTE. We are thankful to APSTSU for their valuable suggestion to get affiliated with AICTE. In this regard we will try to do so in our level best. However, the courses conducted in our Institution are recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AIU/GATE and the syllabus is also approved by AICTE. The passed certificate and mark sheets are issued by the ICE (I) which are valid for jobs under Government of India.

Govt in appropriate field vide letter No. F No. Eqwl/AB/Gen.corrs./2008-
Students of ICE (I) are also requested to visit the convocation ceremony going to be held by Sept 15 at Siri Fort Auditorium, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi. Guardians are also requested not to worry with any unhealthy propaganda.

Education for all
Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to your notice that many a unions, individuals are crying out for the posting of teachers to their schools, so that the students can get proper education. But nothing seems to go through the minds and hearts of the authorities of education. Frankly, the education in Arunachal is really in a pathetic condition especially the higher secondary level. Recently many a parents might have faced problems in getting their wards to good schools. Frankly speaking there aren’t many schools which provide quality education especially Hr. Sec. level.
It’s also very disheartening because of the procedure of admissions at reputed schools remaining in Arunachal Pradesh. One has to get 80 to 90 percent to just be able to sit in their qualifying test.
But what happens to student from a poorer social section, who despite not having better facilities, teachers and facing hardship from govt. school gets 60 percent which in their context is a great achievement. Unable to get admission in these reputed schools, they have to again go to their old school and face the same problems in higher education. And because of this many students leave the studies or get distracted from their goal.
I will be very much impressed if these RK's, VKV'S, KV's take these students and make them achieve. Then only they can prove themselves, otherwise they are just harvesting others hard work. Legislators, ministers, public leaders and wealthy bureaucrats child's study outside the state in big and reputed schools still they fail to make it to the mark. So this shows if poorer student get chance they could do wonders.
I would also like to request the Education Minister to give time and make efforts for betterment of education all over the state instead of concentrating in few. He has the power and if he wants, he can change many things in our state.
Beside, so called societies, unions, if they really want to do good for the welfare of the students and the state, start good schools from the money you have collected to invest in betterment of village, clan, tribe etc. and make your students study. Don't always depend on government. Hope my words get to the masses. And young students do hope that efforts would be put in all by all.

Deviation from the main purpose
Dear Editor,
The 48 hours bandh call has been an utter inconvenience not to mention highly annoying for the general public bringing life to a complete standstill and reducing the bustling capital into a ghost town. The only positive side would be that Itanagar sported the cleanest air probably in these two days by default.It is shocking, how educated youths get swayed into such regressive behaviour time and again.These so called " Democratic movements" cannot be called so when they take on the form of dictatorship.It is sad to see the student unions deviating from their main purpose and instead run the state according to their whims and fancies.

Although many countries have demonstrated that progress is possible, efforts need to be intensified to reach the poorest of the poor and those disadvantaged because of their sex, age, ethnicity or disability. Disparities in progress between urban and rural areas remain daunting. Astonishingly, across the world, one in five workers and their families are living in extreme poverty.
Over 2.6 billion people still lack access to flush toilets or other forms of improved sanitation. Although gaps in sanitation coverage between urban and rural areas are narrowing, rural populations remain at a distinct disadvantage in a number of regions. The report shows that there is still a long way to go in empowering women and girls, promoting sustainable development, and protecting the most vulnerable from the devastating effects of multiple crises, be they conflicts, natural disasters or volatility in prices for food and energy.
